Learn About Our Team

Rachel O’Neill @IGhandle

Owner, Boss Lady and Seamstress

Sewing and constantly finding new techniques and rabbit holes is my forte. I can’t stay still or just do the same thing day after day. So, I hire people to do the slow, steady and repeatable and that frees me to research, learn, have more ideas, connect with people and do the fittings.

I believe in going the extra mile and making sure everything is perfect, yet balancing this with some things can be done the quick way, it’s all about what matters!
All along the way I try to ascertain what the customer values, and what you need and want for your look and how it will make you feel.

I have 4 children, a cat, a robot vacuum and a loving partner (who is yet to pop the question, but you bet I will be putting all the planning into the dress!).

Sewing has always been something I’ve done. From sewing my first pair of pants at 6, I watched my mum sew dresses for me (itchy itchy dresses that I hated but also loved!), and later went on to sew for my own children. Slowly this craft turned into alterations which quickly advanced to bridal alterations so that I can continue to push myself, my skills and my business.

With neurodiversity in my family I find it easy to connect with other NDs. I can do the fittings with children quickly, without requiring extra talking unless they want to, and with minimal invasiveness. We have veils that are sensory friendly and I’m always ready to answer every question that you, (or your mum) may have for me. From our process, to our machines, to my experience to how we will sew, I’ve heard it all and am always willing to build that trust that is so important with those of us who need to know every detail.

Follow me on Instagram and feel free to send me DMs. If you’re ready to book your alterations, go ahead and click the booking link.
I can’t wait to meet you!

Upcoming Talent

Have you ever said something outlandish at a birthday party and had a stranger turn around and completely agree with your unrealistic idea?!
Yeah, me neither until about a year ago when Rachel and I were at a school kid’s birthday party. Somehow from there we became best friends and one day I was over for yoga (because it was freezing outside and inside had a heater!) and when I heard how flat out they were offered to help if needed. I started that day, and now here I am. Learning the ropes of everything this business entails.

My sister is insanely jealous, since she sews more than I did, but now my skills shall surpass hers #sisterrivalry

My favourite brand is Kitten D’Mour and now I have a reason to wear all my dresses!

Assistant

My sewing journey began due to my height! As a shorter person I always needed to hem my own pants. I’ve worked with Rachel for 2 years, own 2 cats and a family of snails. I can’t wait to see you in studio soon!

Helen Grace @IGhandle

Head Seamstress

As a seamstress my entire life, before joining Rachel’s Custom Sewing, I was spending my craft time making doll clothes. Now I sew 5 days a week for work, and after work go home and sew Teapots that I sell on Etsy.
Now my sewing is no longer just construction, it’s deconstruction and advanced bridal alterations.
(My job also entails making sure Rachel has remembered to eat lunch and keep her tea cup full).
I have 2 kids, cats and live in a church. When you come in studio you will see me behind a machine and sometimes greeting you at the door.
If you’re ready to book your alterations, you won’t be disappointed!
